GOOD TO KNOW

Skopelos is a safe and welcoming island, and a few local tips will help you settle in smoothly. Tap water is generally safe for everyday use, but it’s not recommended for drinking, so most locals and visitors prefer bottled water. Keep in mind that on most of the island, as in many other parts of Greece, toilet paper should be placed in the bin next to the toilet rather than flushed to avoid plumbing problems.

Shops and restaurants sometimes close during midday hours for a short break, especially in smaller villages. It is a good idea to carry some cash, since not all places accept cards or may have limited ATM access. Sun protection is important, as the Greek sun can be quite strong even on cloudier days.

Most beaches and hidden spots are easiest to reach by car, so renting one is recommended. Also, please respect local customs, especially when visiting churches and monasteries, by dressing modestly and speaking softly.
